NR league juniors impress biggest of the Bulldogs

NORTHERN Rivers Junior Rugby League representative teams chose the right day to put on a blinder on Saturday. Under-14, 15 and 16 teams finished with resounding victories over strong Tugun (Gold Coast) combinations at Cudgen Oval, where the audience included no less than Bulldogs and Australian second-rower Willie Mason, pictured. Recovering from injury, Mason put his mending time to good use by watching the best young talent from the Northern Rivers. He was full of compliments when speaking with Northern Rivers Region Junior Rugby League co-ordinators Brian Rix, from Ballina, and his Tweed counterpart Peter Smith, himself a former Bulldog. Northern Rivers representative players from the Clarence and Richmond rivers areas are pictured with Brian Rix, left, and former Penrith grand final forward Scott Sattler, who put the boys through a recent coaching camp in his capacity as development officer with the Gold Coast Dolphins, the combination hoping to soon gain admission to the National Rugby League competition.
