North Coast X1 playing for a berth in State CHS final

Macksville High School opener, Phillip Hughes, scored his second century in two days and led the North Coast CHS team to a comfortable 46-run win over Sydney East on day two of the NSWCHS Cricket Carnival at Cobram yesterday.

North Coast batted after winning the toss and finished with 5-237 from their 50 overs.

Hughes, 107, was ably supported by Lloyd Moore (Dorrigo) 37, Tim Grimson (Lismore) 22 and Sam Irvine (Casino) 19.

The Sydney team was always behind the asking rate in the run chase.

The steady North Coast attack again bowled tightly to restrict the opposition to 8-191.

Matt Walter (Evans River) took 2-38 off nine overs, Michael Lawrence (Coffs Harbour) 1-27 off nine overs, James Julius (Kingscliff) 1-33 from 10 overs and Hughes showed he was no slouch with the ball, finishing with the tidy figures of 2-10 off six overs.

North Coast will play the strong South Coast combination at Barooga today with plenty riding on the result ? including a place in the final tomorrow.

North Coast defeated Riverina by 14 runs in the opening round on Monday.
