South Sudan ceasefire back on the table

A CEASEFIRE in South Sudan could be a step closer to reality after rebels and the government in the globe's youngest nation sat down to negotiate on Saturday.

Talks began in earnest Sunday in Ethiopia, the New York Times reported, after initial meetings on Saturday night.

The negotiations come after weeks of fighting in Juba, the South Sudan capital, and follow renewed gun violence on the weekend.

While hopes remain for the talks, the evacuation of United States Embassy staff in the African country last week indicates continued unrest as the parties negotiate.
