Mullum magic in league grand final win

MULLUMBIMBY reckons it is the biggest little town in Australia. Who would argue after their brilliant sporting success of the past month?

Firstly, their very own swim queen Petria Thomas snares three gold and one silver medal at the Olympic Games. Now the Mullumbimby Giants have won the Westlawn Finance Group One Rugby League competition for the first time after a nail-biting 14-12 victory over Marist Brothers at Mullumbimby yesterday.

A big crowd packed into Les Donnelly Field to cheer on the home team and they didn't leave disappointed after the Giants clawed their way back from a 12-4 deficit.

The last time Mullumbimby claimed any silverware was in 1960 when they were playing in the Group 18 competition. Fittingly, the 1960 team was on hand to watch the end of a 44 year premiership hoo doo that started with their victory. At the start of the season the Giants would have been rated rank outsiders.

Now Mullumbimby have the minor and major premiership trophies in their grasp after only losing two games all season. Big effort from a little town.
