MPs to probe road options
By ALEX EASTON
JENNY GARDINER knows she is in for a tough few months.
Ms Gardiner, a Nationals MLC, is chairing the Upper House inquiry into the RTA's plans to upgrade the Pacific Highway on the Northern Rivers.
The committee behind the inquiry will be accepting submissions from the public and the Government until August 19, with Ms Gardiner saying public hearings are likely to begin soon after.
And, like the inquiry into the axing of the Northern Rivers train which Ms Gardiner also chaired, the highway inquiry is likely to hold some public hearings on the Northern Rivers.
Ms Gardiner hopes the inquiry will give the community a forum in which to express their opinions and feelings on the upgrade.
Balanced with the arguments put forward by the State Government and the RTA, she said the inquiry aimed to provide a sensible way through the upgrade issue.
