Meet the district?s two best Under-18 lawn bowlers ... they?re both aged 11

THE Mighty Mite has met his match.

And it took another 11-year-old to do it.

After carrying all before him in the junior grade in the past two years, Ballina schoolboy Aaron Teys (now playing No 1 pennants with Evans Head) was beaten 31-21 in the zone junior singles final by Yamba prodigy Jamie Eichorn.

Played between rain showers at Byron Bay, the game between the two 11-year-olds was a triumph for Eichorn who now will contest the State junior finals at Warilla in July.

He knocked over some tall timber to make it into the zone decider against Teys: a 31-17 victory over Tweed-Byron's giant 17-year-old Keean McClelland.

Eichorn's coach at Yamba, Brian Newell, has been telling everyone who'll listen about his two 11-year-old juniors, Jamie Eichorn and Nick Parlevliet, both of whom he rates better than Aaron Teys.

As for young Jamie, he was satisfied with giving his mum Denise a great win as a Mother's Day present.

Aaron Teys and Luke Clifford, of Ballina RSL Bowling Club, won the junior pairs final, defeating the Byron Bay combination of Tom Fysh and Gabriel Meagher.

The zone fours are timed for this Sunday at Byron Bay.
