Matt is king of Casino
By STEVE SPINKS
THE 31st, 47th and 64th minute of Wednesday night's State of Origin match were special moments for the King family of Casino.
They were the exact moments that Matt King wrote his name into Origin folklore by scoring a hat-trick of tries for NSW as the Blues trounced Queensland 32-10.
He was the fifth player in Origin history to score three tries.
Matt's father, Don, summed up the emotion of the night in one word when back at work at Lismore's Cecil Hotel yesterday.
"Fantastic," he beamed.
There was even better news for the King family after Matt's performance on Wednesday night.
He was awarded the inaugural Brad Fittler Medal by coach Ricky Stuart as NSW's Player of the Series.
"It (the medal) was a ripper too," Mr King said.
"He thought it was great that his peers had selected him."
The support the Kings have received from Casino residents has been tremendous.
"Lemo's shop even had a sign out the front saying Matt for PM," Mr King chuckled.
