Man refused bail on murder charge

A MAN charged with the murder of a 48-year-old woman at Alstonville on Saturday morning appeared in Lismore Local Court yesterday.

Donald Paul Yuke, 30, of Alstonville, was arrested by Ballina police at 3.40am on Saturday at the woman's home.

Yuke was taken to Lismore police station for questioning. In court yesterday, Yuke entered no plea and did not apply for bail.

His defence solicitor requested brief orders be made and the case be adjourned to June 3.

Agreeing with the requests, Magistrate Annette Sinclair adjourned the case for reply and said Yuke could appear by audio video link on that date.

Police were called to the house in Deegan Drive, opposite Geoff Watts Oval, where they found the body of the woman whose name has not yet been released.

The house was secured by police and specialist forensics officers investigated the scene.

Police are keen to speak with anyone who may have been in the%vicinity on Friday night. Call Lismore Police on 6626 0599.
