Man, 30, to face murder charge

POLICE have arrested and charged a man with the murder of a woman who was found dead at a house in Alstonville on Saturday morning.

About 3.40am, police from Richmond Local Area Command went to a house in Deegan Drive, near the Alstonville Bowls Club.

At the house they discovered the body of a 48-year-old woman who had sustained injuries to her upper body.

A crime scene was secured at the house and specialist forensics officers scoured the area for clues.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Lismore police station for questioning. He was charged with murder and refused bail to appear in Lismore Local Court tomorrow.

Police are particularly keen to speak with anyone who might have been in the vicinity of Geoff Watts Oval in Alstonville on Friday night and witnessed any suspicious activity.
