Locals place in longboard tour opener

BALLINA surfers Melissa Combo and Tessa Davidson finished third and fourth in the women's division at the opening round of the Suzuki Pro Longboard Tour at McCauleys Beach, Coffs Harbour at the weekend.

The women's division was won by Cath Perry (Port Macquarie) from Californian Amie Zelcer.

Davidson fought on bravely after a nasty cut caused when her board hit her in the face during preliminary rounds.

In the Under-18 division, Suffolk Park's Chris Watt was third and Byron Bay's Brett Kelly fourth.

The open division was won by Coffs local Harley Ingleby from Dave Simons (Crescent Head), Jye Burnes (Newcastle) and Josh Constable (Noosa).

Round two of the longboard tour takes competitors to Mandurah, Western Australia on April 16-17.
