Local league clubs set for final hit-outs

By ADRIAN MILLER MOST local clubs in the Retravision Northern League will have their final hit-outs this weekend before the local rugby league season kicks off the week after Easter.

Byron Bay Red Devils and Marist Brothers Rams lead the way with a derby clash at Crozier Field today. The Rams went down to South Tweed last weekend and with the Devils looking good on the training paddock under new coach Vince Nicklin, the clash provides an interesting teaser in the lead-up to the season. The sides will meet in all three grades from noon. The Mullumbimby Giants will face a new-look Cudgen Hornets at Ned Byrne Field, Kingscliff, today.

Last year's premiers have been decimated by an off-season wrangle and a win for the Giants would give them a much needed boost.

The sides will play two senior games with a composite Under-18/19s game also scheduled.

The junior game will kick off at noon, with the main senior game due to start about 3pm.

Ballina Seagulls had their last hit-out against Murwillumbah last night at Murwillumbah.

Ballina lost at home last week in wild conditions to the Tweed Coast Raiders and were looking forward to more football-tolerant weather overnight.

Casino RSM Cougars and the Kyogle Turkeys have the weekend off after their derby clash at New Park last weekend.
