Little athletes on the move



NINETEEN athletes from the Lismore Little Athletics Centre travel to Newcastle this weekend to take part in the Region Four Little Athletics Championships.

The team includes: Boys ? Under 8 Tom MacAnelly; Under 9 Jacob Binney, Charlie Wheatley; Under 10 Stephen Horne; Under 11 Brendan Hopkins, Mathew Payne; Under 13 Ryan Green. Girls ? Under 8 Georgie Wheatley; Under 9 Nicole Boland, Madison Rilley; Under 10 Karly Potts; Under 11 Michaela Boland, Tarne Green; Under 12 Amanda Jennings, Ruby Wheatley; Under 13 Zoe Dundas, Alana Potts, Amber Wheatley; Under 14 Lisa King.

Amanda Jennings will go into the competition as a hot favourite in the Under 13 girls shot put, Zoe Dundas and Lisa King should also have a good chance of qualifying for the State titles in Sydney in their hurdles events.

Club secretary, Sue Payne, said: "All athletes have a good chance of qualifying to go on to Sydney if their performances last weekend at the third round of the Tri-Series is any indication.

"All pulled out personal bests in the events that they are competing in this weekend and with the track having a Tartan synthetic surface, this means that we can expect further improvement."

The team leaves Lismore today and competes tomorrow and Sunday.
