Lister hat-trick a friendly gesture
By Steve Spinks
The son of one of the all-time great Australian jockey's made his presence felt at the Ballina Jockey Club's TAB race meeting yesterday.
Mark Lister, now based on the Central Coast, won three out of the seven races contested and just missed out on a fourth in an impressive display.
Lister is the son of former champion rider Arthur Lister of Brisbane.
Mark Lister rode at Ballina because of a friendship with local owner Peter Duggan.
He rode Endosado to victory in race three which is owned by Duggan and local trainer Steve Lee in a syndicate.
Lister then picked up a further win for Lee in race four before finishing his day with another win in race six, this time for another Ballina trainer Bill Pholi.
For the past 12 months Lister has been racing in Macau. He has only recently returned to Australia where he is now contracted to Gai Waterhouse to do her provincial work, based mainly at Hawkesbury, Wyong and Newcastle.
But there was no sight of the flamboyant Sydney trainer at Ballina yesterday as Lister plied his trade for the locals.
