Lismore beauty finds her beast

By NERIDA BLOK

LISMORE beauty Sarah Grant has found her beast ? on stage anyway ? in international singing star Rob Guest.

The 19-year-old will sing alongside Mr Guest, who is best-known for his performances in theatre productions Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.

Sarah will sing two songs ? All I Ask of You, from The Phantom of the Opera, and Beauty and the Beast, from the show of the same name ? in An Audience with Rob Guest in Lismore City Hall starting at 8pm.

The former Trinity Catholic College Lismore student said she was invited to sing with Mr Guest after his musical director, Kellie Dickerson, contacted her singing teacher Pauline Walsh.

"I have never really had the opportunity to do something like this," she said.

"He's an awesome singer and he's a stage performer, which is the kind of direction I'd like to head in."

Sarah said she would have just two rehearsals with the superstar before tonight's show, but she said she was impressed by his strong voice.

"He definitely has so much power in his voice which is inspiring," she said.

Sarah has been involved in singing and theatre since she was five years old.

She is currently studying eighth grade classical vocals with Ms Walsh and is also enrolled in first-year contemporary music at Southern Cross University.

Ms Dickerson said the idea behind including local performers in Mr Guest's concert, which is touring regional areas, was to give young artists the chance to develop.

"You develop much more quickly and more roundly when you are performing in front of an audience," she said.

"Because both Rob and myself have a lot of stage experience we can help them give them coaching."

Tickets are on sale at the door; adults $36, concession $30.
