Lennox GP to head health council

By BREE PRICE

LENNOX HEAD GP Sue Page has been named the new chair of the North Coast Area Health Service Council.

Dr Page, a practising clinician, said her appointment as chair recognised health care was not only about hospitals.

"Previous chairs tended to be senior people from the community rather than clinicians," Dr Page said.

"If clinicians were involved, they tended to be clinicians who were professors of something.

"This is clearly defining a change in the way we see health care, it's not just about hospitals."

As Council chair, Dr Page's first task will be to assist in the appointment of members of the Advisory Council.

"It's both exciting and nerve-racking," she said.

"I'll sit down with the CEO (of the North Coast Area Health Service) and look through applications, and the large number of applications says to me people of the region are not people to sit on their bums and complain.

"They want to be actively involved. The trick will be to make sure the advisory council has good representation from across the region with a diverse set of skills and experience."

Dr Page will be also actively involved in providing advice to the CEO, Chris Crawford, on issues such as workforce development and budgeting. "It's a job where I can feel like I'm making a difference," she said.
