Lawrence storms home
OLD BONALBO'S Kate Lawrence stormed home in the semi-finals of the ICF Slalom Canoeing World Championships to finish a creditable 11th at Sydney on Saturday.
Lawrence was the best of the Australian trio competing in the K1 category with Victoria Milne (13th) and Louise Natoli (24th).
Lawrence's 11th meant she narrowly missed out on a final berth with the top 10 competitors going through to slug it out.
Slovak Elena Kaliska eventually prevailed.
In fact, Lawrence was the highest-placed paddler outside of Europe in her category.
Heading into the semi-finals the former Old Bonalbo resident was in 17th spot.
Meanwhile, Robin Bell picked up Australia's first ever slalom canoeing gold medal in the C1 final on Saturday.Bell edged out Olympic champion Tony Estanguet of France to take the gold.
