Kadina run is halted

By PAUL ATTEWELL

KADINA High School's successful run in the CHS soccer knockout came to an end yesterday with a 2-1 loss to Plumpton High of Sydney at Weston Park, Goonellabah.

Plumpton led 2-0 mid-way through the first half and the visitors looked as though they were capable of piling on several more goals.

But Kadina High hit back and probably had the better of the rest of the game.

All the goals came in the first half.

Dean Eedy capitalised on a Kadina defensive error to open the scoring with a powerful left-foot drive into the top corner of the net.

Five minutes later Eedy gained control of a long through ball down the right flank and crossed with his right foot for Tayfun Erdogan to drive home Plumpton's second.

It didn't take long for Kadina to claw one back, with Daniel Radnidge finding the net after a goal-mouth scramble.

Radnidge was very nearly the hero as Kadina created the two best chances in the second half.

In nearly identical plays, Radnidge was put into space in the right half of the goal box and twice beat the 'keeper ? but twice his desperate shot could find only the side netting.

In earlier games, Kadina High had defeated Richmond River High 4-0, Lismore High 2-0, Alstonville High 3-1, Southern Cross High 2-0 and Orara Valley High of Coffs Harbour 1-all (3-2 on penalties).
