Jet ski takes two off stricken yacht at Bay

TWO men were rescued from a disabled yacht in choppy seas off Byron Bay yesterday afternoon.

Lifesavers on Byron Bay beach noticed a flare out to sea about 1.20pm and launched the jet ski to investigate.

They found the flare had been fired by two men aboard a 9-metre yacht that was located 2km offshore, west of the Julian Rocks.

According to the jet ski crew, the yacht’s steering was broken, there was little fuel on board, the radio was broken and the anchor disabled.

The lifesavers secured the yacht to a NSW Maritime buoy and brought the two men to shore on the skirts of the jets ski.

The men were not injured and did not need medical attention.

The yacht will!be retrieved when the conditions at sea!improve.
