MICHAEL NEWBY is Casino's sexiest beef cake.

The 26-year-old was crowned Mr Beef at the inaugural Mr Beef beauty pageant held at the Casino RSM Club on Saturday, edging out 12 others to take the title.

Moments after the Viking helmet crown was placed on his head by Casino Beef Week Queen Casey Saunders, Michael said he would use his new role to help his home town.

"I have new responsibility as Mr Beef. I'll do anything I can to help Casino become bigger and better," he said.

Pageant judges Renee Williams and Charlotte Lethbridge, both promotional girls for Carlton United, said Michael stood out as the perfect Mr Beef.

"In two words: he's hot," Charlotte, of Lismore, said.

"Michael will do Casino proud, he's very charming and lovely," Ballina resident Renee said.

But both judges concurred it was Michael's outfit that clinched the title.

He wore authentic rodeo chaps that strategically revealed black speedos, chunky work boots and an Akubura.

And he stuck a pair of socks down his speedos.

"The chaps did it for us," Charlotte said.

Mr Beef organiser and Casino RSM Club sports co-ordinator Kenny Woodhams said he was thrilled with the public's response to Mr Beef.

"We'll be back with a new and improved Mr Beef in 2006," he said.

"And all the guys in it this year have booked in to be in it again next year.

"Other towns may have the Big Prawn or the Big Banana, but we have Mr Beef."
