Greyhounds final wide open
THE final of the Southside Agencies / Western Star Trucks Classic (420m) is the highlight of a bumper Christmas meeting at the Lismore greyhounds tonight.
The $7500-to-the-winner final is wide open following the box draw.
Texas Woman, owned by Keven Kutner and trained by Brian Kutner, will probably start favourite after her effortless 23.91s heat win.
Texas Woman raced from box two last week but moves out to box seven tonight with the speedy Missy Lee and Elle Dooley drawn inside her in boxes six and five.
The Kutners also have Postman Tommy, which finished strongly to run down Elle Dooley in his semi in 23.98s, drawn in box two.
Postman Tommy lacks the early speed of some of these runners but he goes to the line very strongly.
Missy Lee began brilliantly to win her heat for Neville Robson and although her winning time was only 24.31s, she is capable of leading early and that is a huge advantage in big races from the 420m start.
Daryl Schafer's Elle Dooley is another greyhound endowed with good early speed, although he dwelt a fraction at the start last week.
He showed dazzling pace to set up a good lead but found Postman Tommy too strong in the run to the post.
Elle Dooley is another greyhound that could 'pinch' this race with a clean start.
As is the case in most big finals, a little luck at the start can make the difference between winning and losing.
Santa Claus will be on hand with lots of goodies for the kids. There will be a jumping castle and face painting to get all the younger generation into the Christmas spirit.
