Gleeson sets the Age Titles pace at Mullumbimby


DUBBO'S Matthew Gleeson continued his assault on the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation Age Championships at Mullumbimby and Murwillumbah yesterday.

Fresh from finishing second in a play-off for the Champions of champions title on Monday, Gleeson hit a three-under par 67 to record the best score of the day.

Not far behind was NSW Golf Club member Mitch Krywulycz who finished with a even par 70.

Other good scores for the junior boys included Ben Sweetman, from The Oakes, with 71 and Dean Mulley (Camden), Adam Stephens (Indooroopilly) and Mitch Dunn (Tuggerah Lakes) all finishing with 72.

Skye Choueiri-Solly was the best of the girls.

The Lakes Club member hit a 75 after winning the Champion of champions on Monday.

Best of the locals have been Mullumbimby sisters Jessie and Emma Dengate.

Jessie, competing in the Under-13s, scored exceptionally well with a 79, while older sister Emma, playing in the Under-15s, managed an 81.

The Jack Newton Championships draws the best 360 NSW junior golfers over five days of competition.

Players have to play a round on both the Mullumbimby and Murwillumbah courses.

At the end of today's play the top golfers will fight it out for the title at Murwillumbah, while those who miss the cut heading to Mullumbimby to compete for the plate.

Jack Newton will make the presentations at the Murwillumbah Golf Club on Friday.
