Give Kirklands more time: MPThomas George recommends a week?s extension

By NERIDA BLOK

KIRKLANDS should be given another week to fix the bus company's timetable fiasco, says Lismore MP Thomas George.

Yesterday Mr George recommended the extension be granted to the bus company during a meeting at Casino with the State Transport Minister's Northern Region manager, Phil Sullivan.

Despite last week's promise that a decision on Kirklands' future as a school bus carrier would be made yesterday, Mr Sullivan would not discuss the issue.

His office said a press release would be issued tomorrow.

Mr George said he believed Kirklands had made positive changes.

"They are getting more children to school on time and fewer children are being delivered to school out of supervised hours," he said.

However, Mr George admitted Kirklands still had problems to address.

"They haven't fixed it all, but they are working on it and I reckon they should be given another week to get things right," he said.

Mr George said his recom- mendation was made on the provision that Kirklands continued to make the necessary changes, and that they provided the Minister and himself with daily updates of what was being achieved.

He said he understood not everyone was happy with the changes, but he pleaded with the public to have patience.

"If there is not a marked improvement by next Friday, I could not support another extension," he said.
