FLAMING HECK!

By EMMA O'NEILL

WHEN smoke started pouring from the air-conditioning vent of a local man's Toyota%Camry he didn't think it would soon explode into flames.

As he drove along Ballina Road towards Lismore, the driver through he would make it to a nearby service station where he planned to get someone to look under the bonnet.

He didn't make it.

Lismore resident, Verdun Dunning, a fire safety technician, was driving behind the vehicle at the time. He pulled over to help after he saw flames coming from the vehicle.

"I knew I had fire extinguishers in my car so I pulled over," he said.

Mr Dunning used two fire extinguishers on the car but was unable to contain the blaze.

"It was lucky it wasn't gas (powered)%because it would have exploded," he said.

The Northern Star's chief photographer, who happened to be passing, captured the drama of the car's destruction.
