First gear instead of reverse . . . bugger

A 76-YEAR-OLD Ballina woman will be given an in- fringement notice after crashing her car through the front windows of Coles Supermarket, Ballina. The car ended up just centimetres from the busy front counter. The accident happened at 6pm on Saturday and caused about $20,000 worth of dam- age, police said. The woman was not seri- ously injured. A pedestrian who escaped being hit was showered with glass and received cuts re- quiring treatment at Ballina Hospital. It appears the driver may have accelerated forwards instead of reversing out of her car parking space. Police said the car was parked outside the store near the front entrance. The car travelled for- wards, demolishing a brick wall and crossing a pedestri- an walkway before smashing through the plate glass win- dows, police said. The woman was trapped for a short while before be- ing released.
