Experience telling in snooker contest

THE oldest player at the Far North Coast Snooker Association Handicap Championship at the Lismore Workers Club on Sunday was Ballina RSL player Allan Philp.

The youngest was another Ballina RSL player, Tyler Ostler.

Philp is well into his 80s.

Ostler is 17.

Both made the semi-finals of the annual championships.

But it was experience that prevailed.

Philp defeated Ostler in the semi-finals to advance to the final against Twin Town Services player Mick Lane who had knocked over Ballina RSL's Nathan Bostock on the black ball in the third and deciding frame.

Lane defeated Philp in the final to pick up the $200 winners cheque.

More than 20 competitors fought it out for the title during the day.

The next FNC competition will be the 2005 Open Handicap Singles Snooker Tournament which will be held over the June long weekend. Entries close on June 3.
