Emu Colts to test touring Kiwis

THE touring Canterbury Kiwi Colts will play Northern NSW Emu Colts in two cricket matches in Lismore next week.

The Kiwis are on their biennial tour to Australia and are now in Coffs Harbour following matches in Inverell and Armidale.

The annual fixture for the Boomerang Trophy ? contested by the Emus and the Canterbury Kiwis since 1954 ? is the focus of the tour.

That match will be played at Oakes Oval from Monday to Wednesday, following a limited-overs fixture at the same ground on Sunday.

A number of fine cricketers have started their careers with the Emus, including Test players Doug Walters, John Gleeson and Rick McCosker.

McCosker will be a special guest at the players' dinner before the three-day 'Test'.

The dinner will be held at the Lismore Heights Bowling Club tomorrow night.

Any former Emu Club players who might be in the area and is interested in attending should contact club secretary and match co-ordinator Stan Gilchrist on 66246764.

The Emus team will be captained by Brendan Rixon of Tamworth, who is making his fourth appearance against the Kiwis.

The Boomerang Trophy is held by the Kiwis, who won the 'Test' in Christchurch last January when the Emus toured New Zealand.

The Emus will again be coached by Terry Crittenden and managed by Matthew Wilks, both from Maitland.
