Driver dies in crash

By SAMANTHA TURNBULL

A 22-YEAR-OLD Queensland man was killed yesterday when the stolen vehicle he was driving collided with a Toyota Hilux near Nimbin.

The man was driving a stolen Ford Bronco four-wheel-drive north along Blue Knob Road, about 2km north of Blade Road, when the crash occurred.

Richmond duty officer Insp Bill McKenna said the man failed to negotiate a bend in the road about 2.20pm.

The four-wheel-drive then crossed onto the incorrect lane of the road, into the path of the Toyota.

A 17-year-old girl, also from Queensland, was a passenger in the stolen vehicle and was taken to the Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition.

The Wadeville driver and passenger in the Toyota were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Insp McKenna said there were many bends in Blue Knob Road which, combined with the wet weather, were cause for concern.
