Does this man know about Simone Strobel?

THE Comfit image on our front page could be the man who knows what happened to Simone Strobel.

Police released it last night amid growing community unrest about the possibility of a murderer being at large in Lismore.

Police said they cannot confirm they are undertaking a murder investigation until the results of last Friday's post-mortem examination on Simone's body are released and the cause of death is known.

The man is described as aged 40-50, about 180cm tall, with a skinny or gaunt build.

He has a grey beard with about one week's growth and has brown and grey flecked hair.

On Friday, February 11, the night Simone disappeared, the man in the Comfit picture was seen in the vicinity of the Lismore Tourist Caravan Park where Simone was staying with her boy- friend, Tobias Suckfuell, 24, his sister Katrin Suckfuell, 28, and another German friend, Jens Martins, 25.

He was wearing a pale green shirt with a vest or jacket, and long pants.

The man was spotted at about 11.50pm ? almost the exact time the beautiful 25-year-old German tourist left the caravan park to go for a short walk.

A police dog handler discovered Simone's body during a massive grid pattern search of the Lismore CBD last Thursday.

Yesterday the rumour mill went into overdrive with widespread reports that police had four suspects in custody.

However Det-Insp Anne Langford, who is overseeing the investigation, told an afternoon press conference: "I can confirm we have no person in custody in relation to this event at present."

She urged people with any information to contact police on 6623 1599.
