Death knell for landmark building

THE HERITAGE-LISTED Northern Rivers Conservatorium Arts Centre is to be partly demolished. Sixty staff and 500 students have just three weeks to find a new home.

In a shock move, the Lismore City Council yesterday issued a demolition notice on the State Government to act within 30 days as the building is in danger of total collapse.

Mayor Merv King blamed years of neglect by the NSW Department of Edu- cation and Training for the demolition.
