Cyril wins in memory of his father
VETERAN jockey Cyril Small fittingly rode the winner of the Bob Small Memorial Class 1 Handicap (1400m) at the Casino races on Saturday.
It was only the second time Small had ridden in the race named in memory of his father ? and for the second time he won.
Small booted home five-year-old gelding Caravanserai, a 7-1 chance trained at Casino by Peter Stanley, to win by 11⁄2 lengths from Raqeeb (Daniel Baker), with a short neck to Remember Robin (Robert Coleman) third.
Both times Cyril Small has won the race he wore the family colours ? red with yellow braces and a yellow cap.
Four of the five winners at Casino on Saturday were led in by Casino trainers ? Stanley, Michael Trihey, Tom Pratt and Stephen Randall.
The other winner, Mother's Dust in the Edna Robson Memorial Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1000m), is in the care of Grafton trainer David Savins ? formerly of Casino.
