Curfew for youth on rape charge

By ADAM HICKS

A NORTHERN Rivers youth charged with raping a 15-year-old girl at Lennox Head on New Year's Eve will remain on a strict curfew after a brief appearance in Lismore Children's Court yesterday.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, did not enter a plea to a charge of aggravated sexual assault in the company of others.

His bail was continued with the conditions he avoids contact with three specific males and does not leave his family's home between 8pm and 6am.

According to a bail determination form, the youth's actions were more serious than those of his coaccused.

The case was adjourned to March 8.

Another 17-year-old boy also charged with the New Year's Eve rape is due to appear in Ballina Children's Court on January 21.

After the boys were arrested and charged on January 1, police set up a special operation to further investigate the alleged multiple rape.

Investigations continue.
