Country Energy OK with sell-off decision

COUNTRY Energy says the State Government's decision to sell electricity retailers will have no impact on its core business of running Australia's largest power supply network.

Country Energy managing director Craig Murray says Country Energy will continue to own and manage its electricity network, 'the poles and wires', while retail functions will move to private operators.

"We are working through the detail of the Government's decision to determine exactly how many retail employees will be affected and where they are located," a statement from Country Energy says.

"What we do know is that the Government has outlined a range of employee protections to ensure ongoing job security for all current energy sector employees."
