Christmas raceday ... it?s a winner!

CHRISTMAS is fast approaching.

In fact, it's approaching the turn for the straight as the Lismore Turf Club plans a huge day of family celebrations this Saturday.

Lismore Turf Club secretary-manager, Michael Timbrell, says in previous years the corresponding Family Christmas Raceday had drawn up to 2000 people 'and the atmosphere is always electric'.

"In fact, we have more than 400 racegoers guaranteed, just with guests of our sponsors in marquees and reserved areas," he said.

Once again, the highlight of the day is a monster toy giveaway, with more than 30 early Christmas presents to be won.

Entry vouchers are in The Northern Star each day this week and the barrel accepts entries up until the running of Saturday's first race.

A difference this year is that people whose names are drawn must be on-course on Saturday to select the toy.

"But it's not the only reason for the family to be on-course on Saturday," Timbrell said.

"The Lismore Turf Club can guarantee a value-for-money family afternoon, with all those under 18 years admitted free, complimenting the adult entry of just $6 and pensioners $4."

The Byron Bay Kidz Club is setting up for the afternoon on the course, offering dozens of activities and catering to children of all ages.

There's also a pretty strong rumour that Santa will be making a flying visit, complete with lollies to give away.

On Saturday, gates open at 11.30am with local racing from 1.30pm.
