Casino puts sevens back on league calendar

CASINO has resurrected the local rugby league sevens.

With sponsorship from the Casino RSM Club, the tournament carries $4000 in prizemoney and has drawn nine senior teams to contest the inaugural event tomorrow at Queen Elizabeth Park.

Casino RSM Rugby League Club vice-president Warren Moss said local league sevens went into hibernation along with the original hosts the Lismore Workers Rugby League Club about seven years ago.

He said organisers were looking at reinstating the competition on an annual pre-season basis, but that depended on the success of the tournament.

Games start at 9am, with the semi-finals about 1.30pm and the final about 3pm.

The senior teams are Kyogle (two), Lower Clarence (two), Murwillumbah, Tweed Coast, Ballina, Macksville and Casino.

The winners of the senior competition will take home $1500, while the winners of the eight-team Under-18s will pocket $800.
