Casino joins Kyogle: Level 2 water rations

By JANELLE McLENNAN news@northernstar.com.au CASINO has followed Kyogle's lead and will move on to Level 2 water restrictions at midnight on Saturday.

Richmond Valley Council services engineer Dave Holstein said that, with both towns drawing their water from the Richmond River, it was practical and sensible that both maintained similar water restrictions.

Level 2 restrictions ban the used of fixed hoses and sprinklers and limit the use of hand-held hoses to two hours each alternate day between the hours of 4pm and 8am.

Mr Holstein said the river level at Casino had fallen steadily over the past month and was continuing to drop.

"We will be monitoring the river level closely and, should water stop flowing over the Jabour Weir, we will have to move on to Level 3!restrictions," he!said.

"With no significant rain, Level 3 restrictions unfortunately could be soon rather than later."

Further west at Bonalbo, Kyogle Council has introduced Level 3 restrictions, limiting the use of hand-held hoses to just one hour a day every second day.

Kyogle Council hopes to be able to start construction of an off-river storage dam next!financial year.
