Byron secure major sponsor

A SUFFOLK PARK inventor has become a major player for the $65,000 Australian PGA Seniors Championship at the Byron Bay Golf Club.

John Sinclair, the creator of MediDRAIN, this week signed up as the major sponsor for the region's richest sporting event.

Byron Bay Golf Club captain Mark Wilson said he could not reveal the dollar value of the sponsorship but said MediDRAIN was now a major partner that could see the event's continued success.

"If we keep the Seniors Championship MediDRAIN could sponsor it for the next five years which will be a lot bigger than involvement for just one year," he said.

The event's future will depend on the organisational aspects of the championship as well as local support and crowd attendance.

MediDRAIN burst onto the public scene when its creation won Sinclair the 2006 people's choice award on the ABC's New Inventors series.

A removable water trap, MediDRAIN creates a seal on ordinary household drains that stops smells, air-borne bacteria and pests.

The sponsorship deal is a boon for organisers who this week announced that the tour's biggest names would be playing in December.
