Busy time for local boxers



BOXERS from all over the Far North Coast and South-East Queensland will hit the Casino RSM Club on May 19 for a planned 20-bout tournament.

The same weekend, Boxing NSW will hold annual exams, accreditation and refresher courses for coaches, referees and judges. Anyone wanting to sit for their exams should contact FNC president Dudley Weir.

The coaches?? exams will be run by John Thompson from Sydney, and the?z R and Js by John Stebbing of Ballina.

On Monday, May 21, there will be an AIS coaching camp in Lismore for indigenous boxers. Local boxers taking part are James Roberts, Cliff Copeland, Karl Hickling and Timacoy Williams.

The course will end with the boys featuring in a pro-am tournament on the Friday night at Coffs Harbour.

So far for this tournament, Cliff Copeland has been matched with Luke?? Hammond ??of Moree; Karl Hickling with Warren Cootes of Grafton; and Billy ??The Kid?? Robinson with Ozan Craddick of Brisbane.

Timacoy Williams, a former Queensland boxer now living at Goonellabah and trained by his father Jason at the new Northside Boxing Club in Alstonville, will take on the ACT champion in Canberra this weekend. Williams is the Australian Golden Gloves champion.
