Burgess wins his seventh



FORMER State representative and Northern Rivers lawn bowls icon Neil Burgess yesterday won his seventh district singles title.

The Lennox Head bowler defeated Daniel Foster (East Lismore) 31-17 in his semi-final at the South Lismore Bowling Club, then edged out Richard Latta (Casino RSM) 31-29 in a gripping final.

As well as being his seventh district singles title, it was his third in succession.

Latta had defeated Burgess' brother, Rod (East Lismore), 31-17 in the other semi-final.

Other district events completed yesterday: President's Reserve Singles: Semi-finals: Anthony Gaggin 31 d Max Copeland 25; Ian Ahrens 31 d Tony Canini 23. Final: Anthony Gaggin 31 d Ian Ahrens 30.

Senior singles: Semi-finals: Trevor Clarke 31 d George Newell 30; John Donadel 31 d Fred Flick 20. Final: Trevor Clarke 31 d John Donadel 17.
