Brisbane young guns will take some beating
BOXING DAY at Bartercard Lismore Speedway will be the place to let your hair down after Christmas.
Headlining the night is the first round of the Channel Ten Mr Modified Series.
The Mr Modified Series is in its seventh year, with the previous winners reading like a who's who of the V8 Dirt Modified ranks.
This year the level of competition has stepped up in the lead-up to the Australian titles.
The series will be a guide to the drivers who have the outright pace to wear the Australian #1 the following season.
Two new contenders have emerged out of Brisbane in the past season, 'Lightning' Luke Oldfield and Dave Rodgie.
The two young Queenslanders thrilled the crowd at Lismore Speedway last meeting, and even the experienced Stuart Herne and Australian champion Mark Robinson realise the young guns will not allow local drivers to dominate as they have in the past.
The Mr Modified Series is a 50-lap feature with a pit stop at the half-way mark.
Finishing positions over the first 25 laps decide starting positions for the final 25 laps.
The main advantages of this system are that drivers get a chance to repair damage and rejoin the race, and for the second half of the feature all cars are on the lead lap.
This has led to some memorable contests, with some champion drives from rear to front.
Other classes racing on Boxing Day are production sedans and AMCAs. Both divisions have good numbers and will provide excellent support.
Gates will open at 3pm, with the racing from 6pm.
