Branch out to complete carnival
SURF LINES by JOHN WATSON THE Far North Coast branch championships on February 18 had to be postponed due to deteriorating conditions.
With all the major carnivals in March and April, no date was available for the branch championships until tomorrow. It is hoped there will be better conditions so the championships can be decided.
Events conducted before the carnival was postponed were the Under-15 female beach sprint, Under-15 male beach sprint, taplin relay, open male ski, open female ski, Under-19 female ski, Under-19 male ski and open double ski. These results stand. The venue for the championships tomorrow is Cabarita Beach and the carnival will be hosted by the Cabarita Surf Life Saving Club, which has had a busy season, conducting four carnivals. Also tomorrow at the championships, the Far North Coast branch surfboard riding championships will be held from 6am at the Cabarita clubhouse. All competitors should report at that time for the board riding. Other officials for the club championships should report at 8.30am for a 9am start. ?z Salt Surf Classic NEXT season, a new event will be added to the branch carnival calendar on October 6-7, to be known as the Salt Surf Classic. This event is aimed at attracting Queensland and NSW competitors along with selected events for public participation. The carnival will be hosted by Salt Resort and Surf Life Saving NSW with assistance from the Far North Coast branch, which will be the major beneficiary of the event. The format will incorporate the old pentathalon, with knockout events, public participation events including swim-run-paddle. There will also be a sponsored teams event on the Sunday.
