Bowlers dominate final

OPENING bowlers Chris Dwyer and Remo Mazzocato took seven wickets between them to destroy the Goonellabah batting and set up a win for Evans Head in the Norm Ryder Shield Lismore winter cricket final on Saturday.

Evans Head (8-91) defeated Goonellabah Workers Sports (88) in a low-scoring match at Arthur Park, North Lismore.

Dwyer (4-16) and Mazzocato (3-19) swung the ball around with good control.

After bowling out their opposition for such a low total, Evans Head would have expected to cruise to victory, but the Goonellabah bowling attack proved just as effective, with Chris Moncrieff (3-9) and Lukas Hobbs (2-16) leading the way.

It was Evans Head's first season in the competition.

Their win came after Lismore Workers had won the Norm Ryder Shield the previous two years.

EVANS HEAD 8-91 (C Long 17, C Timbs 10, D Owens 10 not out; C Moncrieff 3-9, L Hobbs 2-16) d GOONELLABAH WORKERS SPORTS 88 (P Attewell 22, B Hare 18, C Moncrieff 13; C Dwyer 4-16, R Mazzocato 3-19, M Wimbus 2-11) at Arthur Park, North Lismore. Umpire: Norm Ryder.
