"IT'S a taste to die for," Carol Halpin says of the Thai chicken pie that has just won a gold medal for Billinudgel's Humble Pie Company.

Carol, a quality assurance supervisor, said she eats one of the pies for lunch every day.

"I never get sick of them," she said.

Humble Pie Company general manager Ben Krasnostein is ecstatic after his pies won a gold medal, three silvers and a bronze last week in Sydney's Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition, as part of the annual Fine Foods Australia Conference.

"We entered five pies and won five awards against over 2000 competitors from all over Australia," Ben said.

"This is the nation's biggest and best-known pie competition, so it is an achievement to be proud of.

"We now have the confidence to keep on innovating with new recipes."

Silver medals were awarded to the pepper steak, steak, bacon and cheese and curried lentil pies, and a bronze to the lean steak pie.

Ben said his pies were the best because of the fresh ingredients he used in them, including fresh Asian greens in the curry pies.

"The curries are a stand-alone meal in themselves," he said.

Ben paid tribute to the dedication and skill of his staff and thanked them for making the win possi- ble.
