Big night at Casino
FOOTY fever hit Casino in a big way on Tuesday night.
Not only did the Casino Cougars reign supreme over the USA's Emerging Tomahawks, but the game attracted a crowd the likes of which hasn't been seen at a rugby league match in the town for 15 years.
"There hasn't been a crowd like that at the football since the 1990 grand final between Casino and Kyogle," Cougars fan and secretary-manager of the Casino RSM Club, Darren Schipp, said.
"There was close to 3000 people at the game, with many of those not regular football fans.
"It was great to see, and not just for the football club which put in a lot of hard work to get the Tomahawks to Casino.
"It was worthwhile for the whole town."
And while the result may not have had the town abuzz, it did generate plenty of talk.
"Everyone at work was talking about the game and Casino's win," Casino's Ian McLennan, who took his two sons to the match, said.
"Actually, most people were surprised that Casino got a win!"
