Bells title Kustom-made for Lennox Heads Kennedy

LENNOX HEAD's Stuart Kennedy yesterday joined a prestigious group of surfers after winning the 2008 Kustom Jetty Surf Pro Junior at Bells Beach, Victoria.

Kennedy is on the same career path that Mick Fanning, Dean Morrison and Bede Durbridge trod before moving onto the World Championship Tour.

It was Kennedy's best win of his career in solid two-metre waves at the famed beach.

Kennedy peaked right on cue in the gruelling 30-minute final with two excellent scores of 8.65 and an 8.0 to win over Gold Coast's Nick Vasicek.

It was also Kennedy's first win on the ASP Australasia Pro Junior circuit and sets up his season with the Kustom Jetty Surf being the biggest points and prize money event for the year.

"I've actually been training really hard over the last six months and building my fitness and strength for a serious go on the circuit this year and straight away it seems to have paid off," Kennedy said.

Byron Bay's Ellis Ericson failed to advance further. Garrett Parkes, also of Byron, was pipped by Maxime Huscenot in the Cadet Cup final.
