Beazley to lead entourage of Labor MPs visiting the region
FEDERAL Opposition Leader Kim Beazley will visit Lismore this week, attending a dinner at the Workers Club on Thursday night ahead of a tour of the region.
News of the visit came as Richmond Labor MP Justine Elliot announced the entire Labor Shadow Cabinet would meet in her electorate on Thursday.
The Shadow Cabinet will hold a closed meeting at the Banora Point Multi-Purpose Centre on Thursday morning ahead of a series of public engagements.
A Labor spokesman said the meeting would address local and national issues.
Tight security for the visit meant the spokesman would re- lease few other details about the visit, but he confirmed Mr Beazley's public dinner would be also attended by senior Labor figures Jenny Macklin, Julia Gillard and Rob McClelland, and that Mr Beazley and other Labor figures would attend a series of public engagements on the Northern Rivers on Thursday and Friday.
Mr Beazley will go from the Northern Rivers to this weekend's NSW Labor State Conference, which will vote on a motion calling for trains to be returned to the region.
Tickets for the Workers Club dinner are $40 each and are available from Dymocks book shop in Lismore.
