Ballina proposes park and ride plan

IF PARKING congestion in Ballina's CBD is making you think you're living in a metropolis rather than a peaceful coastal town, a novel solution may be soon offered.

A park and ride proposal is being floated by the Ballina Shire Council, accord- ing to general manager Stuart McPherson.

Workers who park all day in the CBD, but do not use their vehicles, could leave them at a site like the Southern Cross Industrial Estate, and be driven into town on a bus.

The idea has been enthu- siastically embraced by mayor Phil Silver.

It would need to be coordinated with airport activity, Cr Silver said.

Ballina Airport would be canvassed to provide some financial support for the set-up.

Council is also evaluat- ing currently operating timed parking zones in the CBD.

"We set it up as a trial," Mr McPherson said.
