Baggaley secures title tilt in Poland

Byron Bay kayaker Nathan Baggaley is heading to Poland to contest the world championships this year after he won the K1 500m and K1 1000m events in the Australian titles at the weekend.

Baggaley and Byron Bay team-mate David Rhodes also won the K2 500m and K2 1000m events.

They immediately qualified for the K2 500m, but will have to race-off against another Byron Bay paddler, Craig Rodgers, and his partner Luke Young for the K2 1000m berth.

The trio of Byron paddlers plus Young then won the K4 1000m title.

They are eligible for selection, but will have to compete in further selection trials starting on April 8.

n FORMER Bonalbo paddler Sam Norton finished sixth in the recent National Slalom Kayak Championship at Penrith.

Norton's placing means he has missed selection for the Australian team to contest the world championships later this year.

NSW Institute of Sport team-mates Anthony Brown, Robert Parker and John Wilkie were the top three finishers.
