Another dies in local traffic tragedy

A 22-year-old woman from Yamba died at the scene of an accident at Harwood Island early Saturday night when the vehicle she was travelling in collided with a truck. The accident occurred about one kilometre north of the Harwood Bridge at around 5.45pm. According to Coffs Clarence LAC Acting Inspector Joe Roach, the sedan the woman was in made a right-hand turn and crossed into the path of a southbound semi-trailer. The 27-year-old driver was airlifted to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition. Yesterday he was in a stable condition. The 48-year-old truck driver was taken to Maclean Hospital where he was treated for shock. A man died and his 12-year-old passenger was seriously injured in another accident on the highway at Clybucca early Saturday morning.
