All Girls victorious

TWENTY members of the locally-based All Girls Surfriders' Club have defeated their counterparts from the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast to win the annual Ma Bendall/Phyllis O'Donnell Interclub Shield.

The 60 competitors surfed half-metre summery waves at Lighthouse Beach, Ballina, to wrest the title from the Gold Coast Boardriders girls, who had held the shield for the past two years.

Buoyed by a strong team of supporters, locals who won their heats were: Lyla Wright, Stephanie Single, Madison Beckerleg, Lana Parkes, Marg Bryant, Maz Pentecost, Gabby Miles, Mel Mott, Kellie O'Brien, Laura Adsett, Rachel Bonhote-Mead and Ebony Laird.

The All Girls finished five points ahead of the Gold Coast, with the Sunshine Coast well back.

Other team members who helped make the difference included: Maddi King, Eleanor McCready, Carol Stevenson, Isobel Larkin, Sally Gordon, Starcia Smith, Paula Ericson and Sophie Shelton.
