Accident victim Corey New to be remembered through soccer

By JENNY DELL

THE highlight of an afternoon of soccer and memorial dinner for Corey New will include the inaugural awarding of the Corey New Cup for soccer.

A former Under-16 player, Corey died in a car accident at Broken Head last year.

An Under-16s match will kick off at 1pm at Weston Park, Goonellabah, followed by a Premier Divison match at 3pm on Saturday.

It's all been organised by the Lismore Workers and Goonellabah football clubs.

When the date had been fixed, the matches scheduled, and the dinner booked, the Workers Club contacted Corey's parents, Mark and Ann New, to let them know of the arrangements.

Amazingly, the date they had unwittingly chosen would have been Corey's 17th birthday.

Former Socceroo star Craig Foster will return to Lismore for the events.
